May 2014

Passenger figures at Waterford Airport for the first four months of 2014 January to April inclusive show a 78% increase versus the same period in 2013.

Commenting on the increase in passenger numbers CEO Desmond O’Flynn said, “This is indeed good news and we are delighted to report this very strong increase in passenger figures. This improvement can be can be attributed to a number of factors including a renewed level of consumer confidence and commitment by our customers in Waterford Airport as a provider of air services for the South East, and the continuity and regularity of services to both Birmingham and Manchester operated by Flybe.

Furthermore, we have focused a great deal of our recent communication across the Southeast region on informing the travelling public of the number and the range of onward connecting flights and destinations in the UK and Europe, available from Waterford Airport as a ‘through-flight’.

These connections can be purchased on a single ticket. They allow passengers to check-in their luggage at Waterford, make a straightforward and well-timed connection at Birmingham or Manchester and reach a wide range of destinations in Britain or continental Europe on the same day”, Desmond O’Flynn concluded.

European destinations within easy reach of the southeast region through Flybe’s flights from Waterford include Paris, Milan and Dusseldorf. In the UK and Scotland, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Exeter, Newquay, Norwich and Southampton are among the locations with seamless connections from Waterford on Flybe routes.

Waterford Airport offers direct flights to/from Manchester and Birmingham four times each week as part of Flybe’s spring/summer schedule. The onwards travel options mean it’s now possible to avoid the congestion, lengthy queues, long waits and high parking charges at larger Irish airports and still reach major UK and European cities in just hours.
